Kamik is proud to join Parcours Développement durable Montréal’s 2020 cohort

MONTRÉAL, Québec, March 12, 2020 – Kamika Québec family-owned and operated footwear and apparel manufacturer, is proud to have been selected by the Parcours Développement durable Montréal to join its 2020 cohort. Kamik is consolidating its position as a leader in sustainable manufacturing development through this initiative that is fully in keeping with its various efforts to reduce its environmental footprint. Montréal’s economy, commercial development and design executive committee representative Luc Rabouin made the announcement this morning in the presence of various members of the Montréal business community.

“With the assistance of the Parcours, we hope to consolidate and further improve our environmentally responsible practices. We also wish to define our vision for 2030, identifying our targets and indicators of success while bolstering employee engagement,” explained Catherine Fortier, Communications Marketing Vice President at Kamik.

The Parcours Développement durable Montréal will provide Kamik with helpful training sessions, and support and connect them with sustainable development experts. “We have set up an internal environmental committee of five seasoned managers whose main mandate is to implement concrete solutions and create an engagement tool for all departments.  Following completion of the Parcours, Kamik will be fully equipped to obtain ECORESPONSIBLE Level 2 – Performance certification from Ecocert,” says Fortier, who is thrilled to have been selected along with nine other women representing SMEs to participate in the Women4Climate mentorship program. “It’s an honour to take part in an initiative like this that promotes inclusive climate action,” she said. “This mentorship will certainly help my team advance in an environmentally responsible direction.”

In addition to designing and manufacturing many of its models locally, Kamik sets itself apart for its dedicated efforts to sustainable development. By appealing to Parcours Développement durable, Kamik is demonstrating its intent to consistently improve its green initiatives: 100% of rubber left over from the manufacturing process is recycled; 90% of the water used by the Montréal factory is recycled, saving enough water to fill 15 Olympic-sized swimming pools each year; most of its removable felt liners are made from recycled materials, primarily water bottles; and its Hamburg, Ontario factory is zero waste.
